Round-Up: First wins for Oxford City, Kidlington and Wallingford

It was a good day for some of Oxfordshire’s struggling sides on Bank Holiday Monday, with Oxford City, Kidlington and Wallingford & Crowmarsh winning their first league matches and Didcot Town earning their first point of the campaign. North Leigh meanwhile kept up their good form with a third win on the bounce.

Oxford City won for the first time in the National League with an impressive 4-0 victory over Boreham Wood. All the goals came in the final 25 minutes, Nya Kirby opening things up before strikes from Josh Parker, Ollie Sanderson and Zac McEachran. The three points move them out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

It was a tough day though for Banbury United whose three-game unbeaten streak was ended in a 3-0 defeat to Buxton. Jak Buxton scored twice for the Derbyshire side, the other goal coming from Jordan Burrow.

Moving into the Southern League, Didcot Town finally got their first Premier South point with a 2-2 draw over Hungerford Town. They trailed twice, due to goals from Sean Moore and Conor McDonagh, but struck back both times, firstly through Robbie Gallagher’s first goal for the club and then Andi Noka scored just after half time.

Kidlington recorded their first victory of the season in their Oxfordshire derby at Thame United. Connor Ferguson struck twice in the first half, firing into the top corner before getting around goalkeeper Archie Davis. Wikto Makowski pulled one back for Thame early in the second half but despite applying plenty of pressure, they couldn’t find an equaliser.

The other game in Division One Central saw a 2-1 victory for North Leigh over Cirencester Town. Lance Williams opened the scoring only for William Christopher to equaliser. Lynton Goss scored the winner nine minutes from time, sending the Millers into the play-off places as a result.

In Combined Counties Premier Division North, Wallingford & Crowmarsh won their first points of the season with a comfortable 4-1 win over Harefield United. After a goalless first half, Caelan Isaac broke the deadlock for the hosts before Aiden Higgs took over and scored a hat-trick. Troy Pender-Brown scored the consolation for Harefield.

It was a good day all round for our Combined Counties teams. Louis Joyce scored twice as Milton United won 4-0 over Risborough Rangers to move up to fourth in the table, whilst Ardley United were 4-2 winners over Wokingham & Emmbrook. Jordy Ngathe grabbed a brace for them.

In the United Counties League, Easington Sports are still looking for their first win after a 1-0 defeat away at Racing Club Warwick. Finally, in Hellenic League Division One, Kidlington Reserves were thrashed 5-0 by Long Crendon at Yarnton Road.

There will be two Hellenic League games on Tuesday – Abingdon United host Clanfield 85 where it will be pay-what-you-want, whilst Wantage Town travel to Fairford Town.
